the time log – a twitter for notetaking

time-log: a place to paste

do you copy-paste things?

sonicsrini / 2008-05-17 19:22:23

a long-term important big picture thing

in the future, time-log will be integrated with METANOTES.

when you roll over a log entry, an arrow pointing left appears. when you roll over the arrow, a tooltip pops up that says

send to METANOTES

this, plus the fact that

all time-log users automatically have METANOTES accounts

will ensure that users of the-time-log will TOTALLY sign on to METANOTES after a short while of using the-time-log.

you use both – they are both useful – but google is slower than a startup

an OS for Web 2.0 ?

this is a COMMAND LINE FOR EVERYTHING WEB 2.0.

if we build logic into the time log which lets it understand which “platform” is being served (there are 1) palmOS 2) iPhone 3) a-panel-in-metanotes 4) full-screen 5) as-an-embedded-widget ) then we should point these commands at the appropriately formatted view for each of the services into which this prompt connects. so feed the delicious iphone app when you’re in iphone but the delicious fullscreen app when you’re in fullscreen. anyhoo. this is very broad.

the point is – ANY SITE WHERE IT COMES DOWN TO A COMMAND LINE, AND THEY HAVE AN API, WE CAN CONNECT INTO THE TIME LOG THROUGH MAGIC SPELLS. and then you’ll be able to save magic spells you cast in the past – or for instance individual google search results – into various METANOTES spaces, as you will be able to send a log into a space as a new metanote. time log + metanotes = unstoppable.

bow to the command line.

ONE PROMPT TO RULE THEM ALL.

in the future, users will be able to cast all kinds of magic spells from the Time Log command line box.

for instance:
  • ?tags can give me a list of my tags.
  • ?twitter sends the log to twitter.
  • ?google turns the log into a google search.
  • ?username gives you a user’s profile.
  • ?30 sends an event to 30boxes.
  • ?german could babelfish-translate the log to german (english being set somewhere as my default).
  • ?map could display a map of an address.
  • ?spacename spawns a note with that log in it.
    • if there are spaces in the spacename you have to put a plus sign in there.

all of these can be in the helpdocs but there could be easter eggs. anyhoo.

  • ?digg submits a search query to digg,
  • ?delicious with a logname that contains a URL will add a website to delicious

you’ll have to hook all these other web 2.0 accounts in of course – hopefully oAuth will help.

i'm sitting at LayerOne right now....

here’s a link to the-time-log.

i’m going to hand that over to @beppu when it’s time, he can make it more perfect and compliant with all browsers (IE7 still sucks).

i am of the opinion that the-time-log.com could be so popular with the unamerican crowd.

the pulse of metanotes

just as facebook’s News Feed is the beating heart of Facebook, Time Log will be a point to point communication among users – all with a theme of “defaults to privacy, but THEN OH let’s tell my other friend they need to know that”.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-17 19:30:42

getting unamerican folks using time-log messaging

this summer’s secret theme is REVOLUTION BY TEXT MESSAGING.

the plot goes like this:

1) we get the time log perfect

2) we launch it to hackers for testing – such as @OverDose

3) we document and augment it obsessively

4) we promote it as the unamerican subversive communication network

5) we overthrow the status quo.
