search

t’d be killer to have a search feature for the time log

quotemarks in the tags prompt idea

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:10:00

user prefs

it’d be super if ppl could set their own backgrounds and change their passwords too.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:23:28

tag all of my own notes as "me"

that way i can search “me” to see all my notes to just myself.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:30:28

$x -> delete

you should be able to tag a log “delete” or “trash” too.

the quickest fix

could you put a single br after the Log button ? on the palm the first log’s checkbox interferes with a key “ok” button :) thanks !!!!

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:05:48

reserved tags

the best reserved-tag (aka list) name yet: the w00t! list ! as in the dropdown menu simply sez w00t! and tags the log as w00t! the time log will be a place for your little private celebrations !!!!

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:07:26

images

imagine if you could insert images in Time Log through the Textile format !!! BUT !!! the images should be auto-resized to fit into the Time Log panel. also, why not support textile in the Time Log ? just as long as those images are resized…. that is key :)

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:09:36

conversation threading ID idea

can new direct messages to other users spawn a ConversationID# ? this can be stored as a tag. this way, you can create a “reply” link on the note (or have it be implicit if that msg is clicked, after all it’s outlined gold). this creates a conversational feel to direct messaging, like gmail conversations. (!!! wow)

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:30:12

an API

what would it take to launch the time log itself with an API ? what do you think that might do for us ?

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:31:25

archiving other ppl's direct msgs

you should be able to delete (or flag-as-deleted-to-me) timelogentries sent by other people if you want.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:36:05

BLOCKING.

you should quickly be able to block users. it’d also be good for us to have admin tools related to blocking: a user that gets blocked a lot may be a spammer or shithead or something and may have direct messaging privileges revoked.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:36:53

datestamp time correction

pretty important

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:27:48

warning about email address recognition

about emailing-from-time-log – it shouldn’t be “any email within the note to self prompt gets automailed”. this is b/c i think ppl will copypaste things like craigslist postings into this prompt – which would autosend the entire log to the emailer. instead, you should have to enter the email address for the recipient into the Tags: field. that’d be more dummyproof. also right now email addresses pasted into time log get “tagged” as if they are being sent to a user – so a log containing the string “098fds@craigslist.org” gets tagged ”@craigslist”.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:04:34

replying to direct msgs should be smoother

emery asked about replies in the time log – think that is a good idea, it would be great if 1) if you click a direct-message in your log, you open a new screen 2) the new screen has the tags: field automatically filled with all of the recipients from the first log as well as the log and conversation tags. uh then what else ? wouldn’t that do the trick ? although conversation threading isn’t really covered in that, it would make the user experience more obvious – i feel like clicking on a log that @emery sent to send a reply, and maintaining the conversation number tag would be good to keep the reply chain together.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:05:09

separating inbox msgs into tabs ?

it should be trivially easy to see your inbox and outbox. imagine two small text links that say inbox and outbox on the top right of the Note to self: prompt. this will encourage ppl to send many more direct msgs. ideally the inbox link will include an indication of new msgs: “inbox (3 new)” would be great.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:06:33

stats

i’m so excited about stats in the time log. it’d be great if it looked like”3223 logs total (32 today).” and was placed underneath “your private journal”.

also the running counter of “total logs on the system”

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 05:07:47

here is my sly note.

i don’t want people to find this note easily.

they really should hunt to find it.

mimicking twitter

our goal is to mimic Twitter in this :) it’s a bit like a command line paradigm rather than the big old sweeping notespace paradigm – both are great paradigms for managing ideas, the Time Log is optimized for easy input. but no seriously, private-twitter is the point (we have been talking about real-time log-appearing stuff). remember the whole shebang needs to work on very simple smartphone browsers like blazer too. w/r/t textile+images: i definitely agree about getting images in the time log. however, they should be thumbnailed so the width of the image is no wider than the iphone panel. can textile be mod’d to do that ? text or html input ? well, one thing i like right NOW about the time log is pasting code snippets in here for later, which would be harder if HTML resolved. would love it if bullet lists resolved, but here’s an issue: how will you hit RETURN to get to the next bullet point without submitting the log ? you can’t, so it’d have to be smarted up to recognize this as a bulletlist entered with no breaks: “core team members: * madsen * beppu * dora * kumar”. this is somewhat similar to the way i want to let users define groups in a command-line kind of way. maybe there is more mojo to be had. a big thing i personally want to see is the “abstracting” of long logs (like if you copy-paste an entire article into a log, it cuts it off and displays ”...” until you click it for more). i’m pretty sure the time log isn’t where ppl will be pasting html they need to resolve so much. it seems to be more chatty than that; rarely would you paste html into a chat environment. but images = that would be rad of course.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 08:32:25

matt wants ajax

I’ve noticed that time log lacks the textile mojo and HTML goodness of MetaNotes. Is our goal to mimic Twitter in this, or did we just never get around to implementing it? I can see the upside - and the upside of “enter” creating an entry rather than a new line - but there are downsides too. After all, I can’t create paragraphs, bold headings, or bulleted lists, which makes it difficult to discuss weighty ideas, to-do lists, etc.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 08:32:53

careful with emails

@beppu about emailing-from-time-log – it shouldn’t be “any email within the note to self prompt gets automailed”. this is b/c i think ppl will copypaste things like craigslist postings into this prompt – which would autosend the entire log to the emailer. instead, you should have to enter the email address for the recipient into the Tags: field. that’d be more dummyproof. also right now email addresses pasted into time log get “tagged” as if they are being sent to a user – so a log containing the string “098fds@craigslist.org” gets tagged ”@craigslist”.

the “dot dot dot” idea.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-24 09:10:32

reverse chron -> chron

it might be nice someday to be able to see your logs in chron rather than reverse-chron, like a different view. all later, or if we put out an API.
